WHo we are
The Education & Charities Foundation of Houston was incorporated in 1992 as a TX 501(C)(3) non-profit entity.
The primary purpose of the Foundation is to engage in charitable and educational activities that directly benefit the citizens of the Greater Houston area, by the provision of services and programs that support the attainment of higher education, accelerate personal development and inspire achievement for youth of our under-served communities. We sponsor and execute several initiatives singularly, but often partner with other organizations that share in our aims and purposes.
Since its inception, the Foundation has engaged in a variety of activities that have now culminated into a program of six key elements: Mentoring & Intervention, Education Advocacy, Summer Enrichment, College Readiness, Scholarships and Support to Community Projects of mutual objectives.
In pursuit of these key elements, the Foundation has engaged in a variety of programs, with specific examples being: summer camps, supporting mentoring through Kappa League programs, sponsoring educational workshops on resources and college financing, practice SAT/ACT, school supply drives, etc. We have awarded over two dozen 4-year scholarships and more than two dozen one-time awards to students who needed the assistance to be financially able to pursue a college education.
The Foundation has sponsored numerous “at-risk” youth programs during the past several years inclusive of Kappa Kamp and Prince Hall Summer Camp both of which are youth development, leadership and enrichment experiences. Kappa Kamp is a youth camp enrichment program was once conducted at the renowned “Piney Woods Country Life School” in Mississippi, and now housed at Paul Quinn College in Dallas.
